Rx Drug tips
Although prescription drug prices are skyrocketing across the country, the personal
choices you make play a large part in much you actually pay at the pharmacy.
Tip #1: Use generic drugs: Generic
drugs are a good way to save money on prescriptions, without sacrificing
quality. Generics are essentially chemically
identical to brand-name drugs,
often at a fraction of the cost.
Tip #2: Question your doctor or pharmacist: Next
time your doctor writes a prescription for the newest brand-name drug, ask
if there is a less expensive alternative that would work just as well. Chances
are, there is, but busy physicians may not always volunteer this information
unless you ask.
Tip #3: Use your plan’s mail-order service: Save
money by using your plan’s mail-order service for drugs you use for
ongoing conditions — for chronic conditions like diabetes or arthritis.
When you order up to a 90-day supply through the mail-order program, you
usually pay a lower copayment and you save time since you don’t have
to wait in line at the pharmacy.
