Benefits On The Road

It’s important to know how to use your medical plans when you’re away from home— whether you’re on vacation or your child is away at school. All the medical plans offered by The Sound Partnership cover true medical emergencies no matter where you are. However, for non-emergency care, some restrictions may apply.

Here’s a brief summary of how your plan works:

Emergency Care	Medical emergencies are covered worldwide for a 24-hour period or until you can safely turn care over to a network provider. If hospital admission is necessary, call 800.458.3523 to receive the highest level of benefits.	Medical emergencies are covered worldwide, but you probably will need to pay a copayment. If hospital admission is necessary, call 206.326.7666 within 24 hours (or as soon as reasonably possible).
Non-emergency Care	Visits to a doctor, hospital, or other caregiver may not be covered by your plan. Contact customer service at 800.472.2270 and ask about coverage out-of-area.	You may get care at any GHC partnering facility. Contact customer service at 888.901.4636 and ask about coverage out-of-area.
Prescription drugs	Plan ahead so that you have enough medication to last throughout your trip. If you are using your plan’s mail-order pharmacy service, you may be able to have your prescription refills sent to your travel destination. Contact your plan for details. If you purchase prescriptions at a pharmacy:
Prescription drugs	Locate the retail pharmacy nearest you by calling 800.966.5772 or by visiting CAREMARK®. You may also purchase a prescription at any nonparticipating pharmacy. However, you must file a claim for reimbursement.	Ask your doctor for a prescription for up to a 90-day supply, if you need it. Purchase your prescription at a participating pharmacy only. The plan will not cover prescriptions purchased at nonparticipating pharmacies.
