Fresh. That is the word which comes to mind when I walk into the office of Stadium’s new principle, Mrs. Barnum. As we begin our conversation, she informs me of her position prior to leader of the Brown Castle. In Minnesota, she attended a university and after graduating, taught for two years in the Twin Cities. She then proceeded to teach at Tumwater High School as an English teacher, and served as principle of Evergreen High School for a decade.
Most recently Mrs. Barnum was located in the SeaTac area as principle of Highline High School. She has been married for fifteen years and has a Shetland sheepdog named Tristan. When asked about her first impression of the school she thought, “This is quite a place!” Everyone was very friendly and helpful, making her first days an enjoyable experience. No major changes are scheduled to come about at Stadium at this time. Instead, Mrs. Barnum says she is using a method called monitor and adjust to learn about the history and traditions of the school, and then evaluate what can be improved. She looks at the challenge of governing Stadium High “through a lens of continual improvement,” and her main goal is to make sure all students are well prepared for the road ahead.
Mrs. Barnum asks the students to “Please introduce [yourselves] to Mr. Berndt She would also be open to any event, club, or class invitations, as she would like to better her knowledge of the student body and get to know individuals. Stadium High School has a new sheriff in town and she is ready for anything! Luckily, she is a very kind and level-headed woman, and although we miss Mr. Kellet I am confident that we are all going to be pleased with this change.
