Mr. stadium takes center stage this weekend

February 25, 2011

This weekend the Link Crew will hold the 7th Annual Mr. Stadium pageant for Stadium High School. This pageant has gone from a small "idea" to one of the biggest school events of the year.

"It's well received by the students," Jess Nelson, Link Crew advisor said, "the opening dance (coordinated by Mrs. Anderson) is always a fan favorite. The kids really anticipate Mr. Stadium every year."

While not a new idea, it's definitely starting to pick up steam in the greater Tacoma area. Curtis, Mount Tahoma, Bellarmine Prep, and Wilson have all held their own versions of a male pageant at their school.

"This is our BIG fundraiser for the other events we put on around school," Nelson added, "this helps fund Building bridges, the People's Choice awards, Renaissance, and other recognition activities we do around the school."

Co-presidents Rachel Henley and Olivia Hutchins, the driving force behind the pageant, are also looking forward to this year's Mr. Stadium event.

"It's going to be fun to see all the hard work the boys have put in. The talents of the boys is possibly the funniest I've ever seen," Hutchins said.

Henley added, "We wanted to make it more exciting... as we try to do every year."

Check out the Mr. Stadium pageant Saturday! Doors open at 6:30pm.
