How can I become a SAMI student?

SAMI is a high school program. Students are accepted to SAMI as part of a cohort class. Students begin their four-year program in 9th grade. Applications are accepted from students during 8th grade. Applications for the class of 2016 are available to 8th grade students at information nights, at TPS middle schools, the SAMI office and online. Click here to download the 2011-2012 Application.

The Science and Math Institute creates an inclusive high school learning community that provides integrated, inquiry-based experiences utilizing our natural and community resources, combining science, mathematics, and the arts.

The Science and Math Institute opens in the fall of 2009 as Tacoma School District’s newest public high school for students beginning their ninth grade year. SAMI will grow into a full four year high school with the 2009-2010 freshmen class.

The mission of the Science and Math Institute is to provide a creative path of learning that emphasizes individual expression and growth through science and mathematics as central elements in academic achievement and life-long endeavors.
