Item Specifications

Test Specifications
K-10 Vocabulary for the EALRs and the WASL Assessment:
This list of vocabulary words was compiled by examining the Item Specifications at the 4th, 7th, and 10th grade benchmark. Each word is linked to its content or process strand learning target, and its level of use ID given. A '1' indicates its a word students should definitely know. A '2' indicates a word that will only be used with a example of definition. A '3' indicates a word that will not be used on the WASL assessment.
The Mathematics Item Specifications provide teachers and community members with general scoring rubrics for short and extended response questions in the content and process strands. Additionally, it details the learning targets that question writers must address. In the Item Specifications, the vocabulary, question types, and contexts for math prompts are defined. When teachers construct their own assessments, or correlate publisher provided assessments to the EALRs, this is the tool to use.

Once writers have developed a pool of math prompts using the Item Specifications, the Test Specifications detail how the actual Mathematics Test is constructed. The Test Specifications detail the distribution of the content and process strands for the entire test, as well as break down the ratios of multiple choice, short response, and extended response questions.

Math Released Items
During the fall of 2001, OSPI released a selection of actual prompts from the Spring 2001 assessment. Each prompt is mapped to its learning target from the Item Specifications as well as the EALRs. For short and extended response problems, rubrics and anchor papers are provided. The items can be used with teachers in professional development, as well as with students as practice problems. See your building principal to get detailed information on how your building performed on the released items.
