Planning & Construction
This site is dedicated to providing information on the progress of the design & construction of school building projects funded by the 1997 Tax Levy and the 2001 Bond Issue . We will also introduce you to the talented professionals dedicated to delivering the best possible outcome to the benefit of Tacoma students and teachers.
Planning & Construction Mission Statement
To provide cost-effective facilities designed to enhance occupant safety, accessibility, and comfort in support of student learning and in accordance with District Goal Number 2, which states:
" Safe, Positive, Well-Maintained Schools: Every student will be provided with a safe, clean, orderly and adequately equipped school that is organized for its educational purpose and where every student is welcomed, respected and valued."
Planning and Construction has completed 18 projects (new construction as well as modernization) since 1997 - that is an average of 1.8 projects per year. This has been an enormous undertaking approved by the Tacoma voters with the 1997 Tax Levy and the 2001 Bond Issue. We have two projects underway at this time: Gray Middle School and the new Middle School at Portland Avenue. Building and modernizing a school is not just moving earth, erecting steel, and applying bricks and mortar. We also coordinate moving students, teachers, administration, and materials from one building to another during the construction phase. We plan, purchase, and place furnishings, fixtures, and equipment for the new building.
The Planning and Construction team is proud of the work that we have accomplished on behalf of the students and teachers of the Tacoma School District.
